How do I buy my tickets?

You can buy them online or in-person. All online tickets sales are made via TryBooking and you can use a credit card, PayPal, or Google Pay.

You can find links to each session TryBooking page on the Local Word Writers Festival home page or you can buy tickest in-person at any of our libraries.

Can I pay with cash?

Yes! If you would like to pay with cash, please visit one of our community libraries and they will be able to assist you

If you require assistance purchasing your tickets online, staff at any of our libraries  will be happy to help you with your credit card transaction (sorry, no EFT or cash payments accepted).

Are there any free events?

Yes!  We have one free event:  Panel Discussion: Publish Your Book in 2023. Sunday 26 August, 5:45pm - 6:45pm, Ki-kirri-ngitj, Ground Floor, Geelong Library & Heritage Centre. You just need to register your place via our What's On page.

Discounted tickets are also available to Geelong Regional Libraries’ members. If you’re not already, consider becoming a member for great ticket prices.
Joining is free and can be done on our website.  

How much do tickets cost?

Ticket prices for the Local Word Writers Festival are as follows:

WORKSHOPS: $30 or $20 for Geelong Regional Libraries' members* or $10 Concession
 

PANEL DISCUSSIONS, PRESENTATIONS & IN-CONVERSATION: $20 or $10 for Geelong Regional Libraries' members
 

DINNER & SHOW (PARIS OR DIE): $65 per person, including canapés & drinks or $55 per person for Geelong Regional Libraries' members

 

Membership is free and available immediately on membership web page.

I didn’t get a confirmation email / tickets - what should I do?

Please check your junk and spam folders, and if you still can’t see a confirmation email then please contact this email link for help

Can I get a refund?

Yes, we are happy to provide refunds where required when requested before the event’ – no questions asked.

Please email events@grlc.vic.gov.au to make your request. Once a refund has been processed, please allow a few business days for the funds to be returned into your bank account

Is there allocated seating?

No. Seating is on a first-in, best-seated arrangement. Doors will open about 15minutes before the event.

If you have specific accessibility needs, please email events@grlc.vic.gov.au and we will accommodate you accordingly.

Do I need to bring anything to the workshops?

Workshop participants will be contacted by email if they need to bring anything specific to their workshop. The presenters will include time for the group to have a lunch break.  Please bring your own food and water.

Online Workshop
Attendees to our online workshop with Louis Glazzard will receive an email with the Teams link in the week prior to the event.

How can I access the program?

We have created a digital program that you can access from your phone or device.

However, if you would like a printed programs just ask a staff member at any of our libraries.

You can print the program at home. For all other details, return to the home page.
You can also use a accessible Word document version if you use text-to-voice software.

How do I get there?

There is limited parking around the library, however there are various options available

Public Transport
The Geelong Library & Heritage Centre is just a 500 metres stroll from the Geelong Railway Station (V-Line and public bus station) and 5-minutes from the Moorabool Street bus stop, so consider leaving your car at a railway station or a bus stop closer to home.

Can I buy the books?

Yes! The Book Bird, Geelong West will have a pop-up shop set up on the ground floor of the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, stocking all the books featured at the festival and more titles from featured authors.

Will the author sign my book?

Yes! Authors appearing at events at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre will sign books immediately after their event. Book signing will happen on the Ground floor of Geelong Library & Heritage Centre.
If you bring a book to a Friday workshop, the author will be happy to sign it for you after the event (except for the online event). If you are attended a workshop at a community library, you may not be able to purchase a book there – but if you buy one ahead of time the authors can sign it for you.

Are there any children’s events?

The Local Word Writers Festival is mostly aimed at an adult audience; however, we have many events that are suitable for young people aged 16+.

Where do I go if I lose something at an event?

For any lost property, visit the administration office on Level 4 of Geelong Library & Heritage Centre at 51 Malop Street, Geelong will hold found property for a limited time after the Local Word Festival. Phone (03) 4201 0600 or this emaill us.

Will any of the sessions be available to view online after the event?

Yes. Some will be. Events at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre on Saturday 26 August will be recorded and available to view on our YouTube channel post event. They will be available indefinitely and you do not need to be a member or a ticket holder in order to watch these events. 
Please note: the workshops and presentations at our community libraries will not be recorded.
