Adult Events - Workshops, Author Talks, Panel Discussions

Would you like to present a public program or event for our adult audience at any library in the Geelong Regional Libraries network?

We regularly work with local writers and creatives to present workshops, author talks, panel discussions and other events.

Please tell us more about your plans and experience by completing the Expression of Interest form. {Please note this is a pdf form that you can download, complete by hand and scan. If you prefer you can use this Microsoft Word version to edit on screen and save}

After you sumbit your completed form to we will be in touch to discuss your proposal. Please note, we schedule at least 3-4 months ahead and due to the high volume of applications we receive, it may take us some time to respond.

If you wish to hold a private event (not open to the public), if you wish to provide catering at your book launch, or if you'd like to hold your book launch at Geelong Library and not one of our smaller community libraries, please contact Venue Hire to explore our room hire options.

The Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) is committed to offering events that are responsive to the community and aim to increase reading, information and digital literacies, increase lifelong learning, build 21st century skills, enhance social connectedness and enable sharing of knowledge.

As per the Connecting and Thriving GRLC Library Plan 2021-2025, events, programs and activities held within the library should fit within the following strategies:
• Community – Local needs, local solutions – customise aspects of library collections and programs that support local priorities and events.
• Places and Spaces – Actively reflect the unique character, stories and cultural heritage of local places through library programs, collections and spaces.
• Our People – Build a culture of inspiring regional leaders – maintain our digital literacy and communication skillset, instilling confidence in the delivery of in-house and outreach programs across all platforms.
• Regional Leadership – in digital access, learning and creative expression – host innovative digital programs and events that connect thought leaders and contemporary ideas, resulting in new regional opportunities.

We are committed to providing events which:

  1. Enhance access and connect audiences with the Geelong Regional Library Corporation’s collections and the region’s history;
  2. Engage the community in public conversation on contemporary issues of importance to them;
  3. Promote the library as a place of innovative thinking and robust discussion; and
  4. Contribute to our emphasis on lifelong learning and community engagement.

The GRLC accepts applications from writers at all stages of their career, as well as community groups and not for profit organisations. Whilst we are pleased to encourage local authors, you do not need to live in the City of Greater Geelong to apply.

In most cases, emerging authors wishing to promote their book will be offered an opportunity at one of our community branches, and we are only able to offer one event per author per year.

We seek event applications from external groups and individuals year-round and assess on an as-needs basis*.

*Please note, we receive a large number of event proposals each year. If your event cannot be scheduled into our current program, we will add it to our Waiting List for possible future programs.

If your event is selected to be presented as part of the Libraries’ Events Program there is no fee to hire event space.

Event presenters are responsible for all additional costs associated with their event and for any launch expenses relating to catering/refreshments.

Please note there are catering restrictions at Geelong Library & Heritage Centre.

Please note, we cannot administer book sales or facilitate payment for books on behalf of authors/presenters, but we are happy for you to conduct your own book sales or we may be able to organise a local bookseller for your event.

  • Relevance of the event for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander and/or CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) people
  • Aspects of inclusivity and accessibility, including people living with disabilities
  • Potential of proposed event to engage with the community and support the development of a vibrant, culturally connected community within the Geelong region
  • Community enthusiasm for the event topic/content
  • Any previous event history with the GRLC
