The Bannockburn Library opened on Saturday 5 May, 2012. This purpose built, modern library is Golden Plains Shire’s first permanent library, replacing the mobile library service that previously visited the town and providing valuable community space and library services to the area. Located in High Street, opposite the School, the library functions as the school library as well as providing the full range of public library services and collections to the general community. The library has:
  • 540m2 of space
  • 36.5 hours per week service including 1 evening and Saturday mornings
  • 15,000 print and multimedia collection items
  • 6 public access Internet/multipurpose computers
  • Free wifi access for library members 
  • Children’s area
  • Young People’s zone
  • Wii and Xbox gaming consoles
  • Study and reading spaces
  • Outdoor reading courtyard
  • Kids Play and Learn touchscreen PC’s featuring select early literacy and numeracy development games and child-friendly keyboards and mice
  • Library programs and events including weekly Preschool Storytime and Babytime Nursery Verses
  • Meeting room available for Community hire
The Hon. Jeanette Powell, Minister for Local Government was on hand to unveil the first fixed, purpose built, modern library for Golden Plains Shire at a civic celebration held at Bannockburn on July 19.
Golden Plains Shire Council officially opened the Bannockburn Library after completing a $2.5 million dollar refurbishment of the former public hall to offer versatile and flexible community space, a newspaper reading area, meeting rooms and a dedicated children’s area.
