The Benefits of Cancer Research

Join the Geelong Region Cancerians for a specialist panel discussion aimed at exploring the early detection, prevention and research of various types of cancer. Panelists will include:

  • Professor Tom Jobling OAM a Director of Gynaecologic Oncology at Monash Medical Centre and recipient of the Order of Australia Medal in 2017 for services to Ovarian Cancer Research;
  • Dr Karl Najjar, a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and awardee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists;
  • Dr Rachel Delahunty, an oncologist with a special interest in gynaecological oncology;
  • Cancer survivor Maureen O’Keeffe; and
  • Panel moderator Roxie Bennett.

‘OUR NED’ - FIRST LIBRARIAN OF THE GEELONG PUBLIC LIBRARY

As part of the 2019 Australian Heritage Festival, 'meet' the first Librarian of the Geelong Public Library, Mr Edward Purdue (played by Ben Mitchell from Geelong Repertory Theatre Company). In this theatrically-inspired presentation, Dr Coralie Jenkin presents the story of the rather rascally ‘Our Ned’, who in 1878 absconded with Geelong Library funds, abandoning his wife in the process. Join us for an exposé of one of Geelong’s most colourful public characters.
