Unlocking the past

Level 3 of the new Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, known as the Vault Kim barne thaliyu (Here yesterday), is a dedicated space housing a public-access area with a large research desk, digital display, reference library, microfilm and PC access.  On the same level there is a 520m2 repository housing the heritage collection with over four kilometres of mobile shelving.

This specialist resource for the local history of Geelong and surrounds preserves countless memories and stories that live on in our public and private records, newspapers, maps, plans, photographs, and extensive catalogues and indexes.

If you are an educator or a researcher, the Heritage Reading Room is the ideal place to pursue your historical research.  Experienced staff are on hand to help you search our unique collection of records, images and objects.
