Bringing our services to the community

We are committed to providing excellent library services to all members of our community. Our community library service provides assistance to people who are unable to leave their home or aged care facility due to health or other concerns.

We are committed to making our library buildings, collections and services accessible to all who need them. This includes people who have a temporary or permanent disability, their service providers and carers. All staff can assist people with special needs to access the physical and online collections. A range of technologies and equipment is provided to assist those with a disability to use the libraries and their resources more easily. For more information please ask a staff member.

Community library service

We make this service available for library members who are housebound in order to enable them to access our print and audio visual collections.

If you are a Community library service member, you will receive a customised selection of library materials and regular deliveries of fiction and non-fiction books, large print books, talking books, DVDs, CDs and magazines which have been chosen by our staff taking into account your tastes and interests.

Our Community library service is available to residents of the Borough of Queenscliffe, the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire and the Surf Coast Shire who are:

  • temporarily or permanently housebound due to age, illness, injury or disability and do not have family members who are able to assist with the selection and delivery of library materials; or
  • carers of a housebound person or persons who have no reasonable alternative to home delivery of library materials.

Self-select service

A self-select service is available for library members who can visit our libraries but have difficulty carrying their library materials home. Members can visit our libraries, select their own materials, check them out and deposit them with a library team member for delivery to their home by a library volunteer.

iConnect service

If you are homebound or caring for someone who is, we have volunteers who can help you to use your tablet to connect with online library services, learn about email and be aware of cyber safety.

Bulk loans

We provide bulk loans of library materials to aged-care facilities and can customise these collections to match the needs of the facility.  We are able to update the loans on a regular basis so there is always a fresh book or DVD available.
