Geelong Libraries have the following collections:

The collection includes general fiction, romances and westerns in hardback and paperback format

Items in the following fiction categories are labeled accordingly:

Adventure, Australian, Crime, Family Stories, Fantasy, Historical, Horror, Humorous, Romance, Science Fiction, Short Stories, War, Westerns.

Held at all libraries and mobile libraries.
 



Audio Books (Adult, Young Adult and Junior) are held in CD and Playaway format and include fiction and some non fiction titles.

The collection includes films in the following categories: Comedy, Drama, Horror, Classics, Family and Children’s films, International Classics and TV Series.

The collection includes: - local area resources relating to the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains and Surf Coast Shires and the Borough of Queenscliffe - resources which it is inappropriate to retain on open access shelves because of condition; age; rarity; inability to replace; content; format or space considerations

The collection targets children aged 5-12 years and encompasses current and classic fiction for the developing, reluctant and advanced reader with special emphasis on Australian titles. Simple fiction for children aged 5-8 years is labelled E (Eager Readers)

The collection includes Australian daily and weekly newspapers for use within the library only. Select newspapers are also available online using Pressdisplay.

Adult and Junior resources cover a range of materials and subject areas at a general level of interest. They are shelved in one sequence by the Dewey Decimal Classification (call) number, which appears on a label at the bottom of the spine or on the bottom left hand corner of the front cover.

Junior materials have yellow call number labels.

Resources include books, Reference materials for use within the branch, CD ROMs, documentary style DVDs which support informational needs and Language Learning Kits

The collection targets babies and pre school age children, primary school aged children and parents

Picture books may be simple or sophisticated in content

The collection includes very elementary non-fiction titles

The collection targets young adults aged 12-15 years

Its coverage is predominantly current titles from new, standard and popular authors, with an emphasis on works particularly relevant to Australian teenagers

Fiction appropriate for young adults over 15 years may be shelved in the Adult Fiction collection
